What or who is an Organization?

An organization is an entity with a single bank account and tax ID number. If your organization has its own bank account and W9, it will be its own CUR8 account. If your organization has departments with different bank accounts or tax IDs, they will be separate organizations on CUR8.

An Organization could be:

  • The entire school
  • A booster group
  • Individual sports teams
  • A theatre department
  • A dance studio
  • Community Group
  • An LLC

Remember that checks or electronic deposits can only be made to a single bank account if you register your school as an entire organization.

W9 Requirements for Each Organization

Am I required to submit a W9?

Yes, if your Organization is based in the United States and meets the IRS revenue threshold, you will need to provide a W9 for each Organization in CUR8. The W9 is necessary because CUR8 is required to issue a 1099 form for organizations that exceed the IRS reporting threshold.

Why does CUR8 need a W9 and where should I submit it?

Do I still need to provide a W9 if I belong to a non-profit?
Yes, non-profits still need to provide a W9 if their revenue meets the IRS threshold.

Do I need a W9 if I am an individual?
Yes, if you are an individual, you will use your SSN. Ensure that your name is represented correctly on the Organization name in CUR8.

Quick Checklist: Should You Create a Separate CUR8 Organization?

Do you have a separate bank account?
Do you have your own W9/tax ID?
Do you want separate 1099 reporting?

If yes to any, you need to create a unique CUR8 Organization

Our entire school district is joining CUR8.

Amazing!

District Organization Considerations

  • In the case of a school district, it’s important to note that a district is typically not registered as a single organization. Instead, each individual school or unique department/group with its own bank account and tax ID number will be set up as a separate organization within CUR8.
  • If specific departments within a school have their own bank accounts or tax IDs, those departments should also be created as separate organizations. CUR8's powerful platform makes it easy to manage your entire community, whether you're organizing by school, department, or both.
  • We recommend creating a CUR8 Organization for each bank account.  If departments within a school manage their finances separately, consider setting up additional organizations for those departments.

Managing Multiple Organizations  - Single Login

Each organization can have multiple admins. If you're an admin associated with multiple organizations, you can manage all of them from a single login. Whether you're a Department Chair overseeing 3-4 organizations, a Principal managing 15 organizations within a school, or a Superintendent overseeing the entire district, it’s all accessible from one account.

This single login system simplifies the process for admins, as well as accountants and treasurers.

School District Example:

Tait County School District has five schools: two elementary, two middle, and one high school. However, each of these schools and specific departments within them might be set up as 13 distinct organizations.

Tait County School's total organizations may look like the following:

Tait County Elementary 1 Organization

Single bank account, all funds go into this account.

Jefferson Elementary 1 Organization

Single bank account, all funds go into this account.

Tait County

Middle School

1 Organization

Single bank account, all funds go into this account.

Jefferson Middle School 3 Organizations
  • Jefferson Middle School - Band Boosters
  • Jefferson Middle School - Football
  • Jefferson Middle School - Student Council

Each of these groups has its own bank account and tax ID, so each is set up as a separate CUR8 Organization.

Tait Jefferson

High School

9 Organizations
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Theatre
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Band
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Football
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Student Council
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Dance Team
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Basketball
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Soccer
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Choir
  • Tait Jefferson High School - Film Club

Each of these groups has its own bank account and tax ID, so each is set up as a separate CUR8 Organization.

Remember, if you need access to all the organizations in a district or school, you can be an admin on all these organizations with a single login.

How do donations work?

Any donations received are credited to the Organization. This means that any donations made during ticket purchase are reported as donations to the overall Organization. Donations are not credited to events; they are credited to Organizations.
