Overview

Film Review in CUR8 is a powerful tool for recording rehearsals, choreography, games, practice, performances, or any live session you want your group, cast, or team to review later. Film Review lives in the Assets section of CUR8 and centralizes footage, allowing your People to watch, refresh their memory, review notes, add new notes, and stay aligned and up to date.

Quick Start for Film Review

  1. Navigate to Manage > Assets.

  2. Click Create New Asset and select Film Review as the asset type.

  3. Name the asset, add an optional description, and assign access.

  4. Click Stream to start recording or Save to set it up for later.

  5. If you choose Stream, you'll be directed to the Film Review dashboard. If you're ready to start recording, select Start Recording.

Film Review: Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Go to Assets List

  1. Select Manage in the upper left corner.

  2. Choose Assets.

Step 2: Create a Film Review Asset

  • On the Assets page, click Create New Asset in the header.

  • Select Film Review as the asset type. Stream type defaults to Live Stream and cannot be changed.

Step 3: Name and Describe Your Film Review

  1. Enter a name that clearly identifies what is being recorded.

    • Example: “Opening Number Choreo"

  2. Add a description if desired to provide context or instructions.

Step 4: Assign Access in the Secondary Filter

  1. In the Who section, select your Organization.

  2. Select the Project.

  3. Assign access to specific Groups, Roles, or People.

  4. FYI: Only people directly connected to an asset can view it. You can add access later if needed.

CUR8 Tip: The Secondary filter works best when used left to right to narrow down who you need to assign to an item. Start by selecting your Organization, Project(s), Group(s), etc. You can skip Groups and Roles and go directly to people if needed. However, if you add groups back in, the selections to the right of Groups will update accordingly.

Step 5: Save Film Review Asset or Start Streaming

Once you've assigned people, in the bottom right, you will see a Stream button with three options:

  • Stream: Opens the Film Review asset Dashboard in preparation to start recording immediately.

  • Save: Saves the Film Review asset for later use.

  • Save and New: Saves the current asset and opens a new asset form.

CUR8 Tip: For those who like to be prepared, if you plan to record multiple rehearsals, practices, games, performances, etc., we recommend setting up all your Film Reviews ahead of time using Save and New. Then, on the day of the event, you select the one you need and start recording! Film Review can even be connected to a Calendar Item

Film Review is also quick and easy to set up, so you can create it just a few minutes before you need it.

Step 6: If you're ready...Start Recording

  1. Click Stream to enter the Film Review interface.

    • Important: The recording does not start automatically. It must be triggererd. Once it starts, you cannot pause it. If you stop Film Review and need to continue recording, you'll need to make a new Film Review asset.

  2. The Film Review interface has three columns:

    • Monitor (left): Shows the active video feed. If you do not see anything in the black box, this means you need to connect a camera.

    • Notes (center): Blank until recording starts; this is where you capture feedback. A notes field will appear.

    • Note Stream (right): Displays time-stamped notes as they are posted. You can edit the note during a Film Review recording or once the recording has finished.

3. Check your Available Devices under the Monitor column to confirm you have selected the correct camera.

4. Finally, under the recording preview, select Start Recording to begin recording.

If you've successfully started the recording, you'll see the "Total Stream Time" start counting UP with a flashing red button.

And the notes section with have a text box, ready for you to enter notes.

Step 7: Take Notes during Recording

Notes have two modes:

  • Regular: Type a note and click Post Comment.

  • Quick: Press Enter to post the note immediately; you do not need to select Post Comment.

  • You can toggle between the note mode just above the text box, where it says Regular Mode.

You can also tag People, Roles, and Groups in the notes, and even notify them, so the right people see them.

  • @p- for a person

    • For example: @p-Brad Smith

  • @r- for a role

    • For example: @r-Beast

  • @g- for a group

    • For example: @g-All Ensemble

Below is an example of tagging a person. I entered @p-ari, and I was given the option of tagging Aria Coleman in the note.

Step 8: Stop Recording

  1. When finished, click Stop Recording under the Monitor.

  2. Decide how to handle your notes:

  • A headshot indicates who is assigned to each note, along with their headshot.

  • All notes from Film Review appear in the Communication area, where you can search and filter them specifically by Film Review.
