The CUR8 POS Terminal makes it easy to process in-person credit card payments at your events. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Basic Requirements

To use the POS Terminal, make sure you have the following:

  • A device (computer, tablet, or phone) connected to your CUR8 Box Office account.
  • A browser that’s up to date (we recommend Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge).
  • A Wi-Fi network that is password protected using WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal security.
  • The POS Terminal and your CUR8 device must be on the same network.

The terminal connects over Wi-Fi and does not plug directly into your device.

POS Terminal - 3 Step Overview

1. Registration - Link the terminal to your CUR8 account. A specific POST terminal hardware device must be assigned to a specific CUR8 account. This is a one-time setup.

2. Connection -  Select which registered terminal to use for your login session. This links a specific registered POS terminal to a user for their current login session. For example, if you own 3 terminals, User JohnDoe selects and connects to one at login. The connection expires upon logout and must be re-established in the next session.

3. Processing -  Accept payments from attendees using the POS Terminal.

Step 1: Registering Your POS Terminal

Before you can use the terminal, you’ll need to register it with your CUR8 account.

1) Charge and Power On Device

  • Snap off the battery cover and insert the battery.
  • Charge the device using the included cable or a mini USB cable (not included).
  • Hold the power button on the right side until the screen turns on.

2) Connect to Wi-Fi

  • Tap “Connect to Wi-Fi.”
  • Choose the same Wi-Fi network your CUR8 device is using. It must be the same network.
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  • Tap the back button in the bottom-left corner.
  • Use "Change Wi-Fi" to switch Wi-FI selection.

3) If prompted - Update Software

  • If you see an “Update” button, select it.
  • Once the update is complete, you’ll see the Stripe splash screen.

4) Register the Terminal in CUR8

  • On your CUR8 device (on the same network), log into your CUR8 account.
  • From the Organization Menu, go to Preferences/Settings, then POS Terminal.
  • Click “Add a New Device.”
  • On the terminal, swipe from left to right and select “Settings.”
  • Enter the admin PIN shown on the CUR8 page under the "Tips" section.
  • Tap “Generate Pairing Code.”
  • Enter the dictionary words displayed on the terminal into the “Registration Code” field in CUR8 (include hyphens).
  • Enter a Label Name to help identify the terminal (especially if you have more than one). We recommend you label your device with the same label listed in CUR8.
  • Choose “Register" on CUR8.

Once Terminal is Successfully Registered

  • CUR8 will show “Registration Successful,” and the terminal will say “Registration Completed.”
  • You’ll now see this terminal listed in your CUR8 POS settings.

Again, we recommend labeling the physical device with the same Label Name using a label maker.

Step 2: Connecting a Terminal

You’ll connect to a terminal each time you log in. You can connect on the fly or set a default terminal in advance.

Option 1: Connect During Checkout

Choose this method if you'd like to connect when processing your first POS terminal transaction of the session.

  • Log in to your CUR8 account.
  • Add tickets to your cart and proceed to checkout.
  • In the Payment Method dropdown, select POS Terminal.
  • The first time you choose this payment method from a logged-in session, you’ll be prompted to choose from your registered terminals.
  • Once connected, a green banner above Payment Section will confirm the terminal name.
  • You’ll remain connected for the entire session.
  • Logging out will end the connection.

Option 2: Set a Default POS Terminal

Choose this method to preset your POS terminal connection before processing any transactions during your session.

  • Log in to CUR8.
  • From the Organization Menu, go to Preferences/Settings, then POS Terminal.
  • Click “Make Default” next to the terminal you'd like to use.

Step 3: Processing a Payment

  • Log in to CUR8 and add tickets to the cart.
  • Select Checkout.
  • At checkout, in Payment Method, select POS Terminal.
  • If successful, a green banner will confirm you're connected to the device. It will display the name of the Device you're connected to.
  • Fill out the attendee’s information.
  • While you do this, the attendee can insert their card into the terminal.
  • Once customer information has been completed, select Check Out to complete the transaction.
  • You’ll see a confirmation screen when the order is processed.

Terminal Not Connecting?

  • Confirm that the terminal and your CUR8 device are on the same password-protected network. This is a recent update from Stripe.
  • Make sure you're the browser you're using; Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc, is up to date.
  • The POS Terminal does not connect via Bluetooth or cable. Wi-Fi only.

Please note: Stripe recently required that POS Terminals connect only to password-secured networks.

Where to View POS Transactions

Go to your Account Report in CUR8 to view a summary of your POS Terminal transactions for a specific event.

Network or Credit Card Processing Issues?

Credit card processing issues through the Box Office on our site are often related to the school’s network or firewall blocking the payment processor. These issues are difficult to diagnose after the fact.

This is often related to the school’s network, preventing the transaction from reaching our billing system. Since no errors are recorded, despite our system tracking failures, it suggests the transaction is being blocked before processing can begin.

Please report these issues to us as soon as possible so we can evaluate them in real time.
